I make furniture pieces from solid wood. Usually I obtain the wood from Junior Champion who mills it in Shady Dale. I then dry the wood in my solar kiln at the back of my property.
This piece is a reproduction of a bench Ann and I saw and liked at the A.H. Stephens State Park in Crawfordville, Georgia.
The bench is made of thick pine boards and is stained with an ebony stain. We liked it because it fits so well with our porch and shutters, which are identical to those found at Stephens' house, called Liberty Hall. Liberty Hall was constructed in 1875. Our house, called Jasmine Bower, was built in 1832.
Two years ago I made my "Red Stripe Table" from old barn siding, quartersawn oak, ghost maple and a sapling that grew into a corkscrew shape thanks to a tenacious vine. Last year I sold it to Betsy and Sandy Morehouse for Burge Plantation.
My "Reindeer Desk" is made of old barn siding (this time without paint), ghost maple, walnut legs and a ghost maple shelf supported by cedar sticks. When it was done it made me think of antlers, hence the name. Artist Cindy Murphy is the current owner. She is painting a scene of my farm in exchange for the desk.
I once was commissioned to make a sofa table for a guy who wanted to display a stuffed bobcat on its shelf. Turns out, he bought something else before this piece was completed. My "Bobcat Table" was sold right away, presumably to somebody who displays something other than a bobcat on it. It's made of barnwood with cedar branches at the ends. I thought that would be a cool way to see the bobcat.
This next one is based on a design of an old table I salvaged out of Johnny Roquemore's cousin George's house before they bulldozed it. It has a top of bookmatched ghost maple boards, quartersawn oak base and ghost maple aprons and drawer. The drawer is dovetailed and features handles made from old railroad spikes from the track outside my house. The ghost maple shelf is supported by a section of cedar that was divided and cut out to fit the shelf. It is currently being used by Nicole Rushin, New Media Creative Director for Punch Advertising.
I am so glad you got some pictures of your furniture up. I love the photo of the bobcat table. The lighting came out really nice. Honored to have a piece of your furniture in my house. I wish I had room for more.
